Reflection:
Do you
sometimes think it would nice if life were not complicated? But life is complicated
and the complexities matter.
They
are part of God’s world and God’s work.
Difficult daily realities are often the fabric of our lives. But can God
help us?
Jesus
died and rose again - and then what was different? The Acts story, which tells
us of the church’s beginning and its
dramatic
growth from sacred Jerusalem to imperial Rome, shows us in story form, often
people’s personal stories,
what
is different now post-Easter. Like Paul
and his companions, among their often difficult daily realities, lived in
an
extraordinary manner. Where we encounter Paul in Acts today, he is setting off
from Roman Asia and crossing to the
opposite
side of the Aegean Sea, breaking new ground in the cities of Europe for the
Word of God. With fewer Jews there
the ethos
is more pagan. And Paul and his companions discover what happens to those who
challenge the powers of the world
with
the power of the Name of Jesus.
I will
share some personal stories from the Waskia project. I have never before walked
as far or slept over in so many villages
all
within a month. People everywhere read with us the Easter stories along with
many psalms traditionally read in this season.
Even
when things haven’t worked out completely right, and we have not been all that
we could be, still we were signposts
pointing
to God, who is steadfastly loving and forever faithful. Many people saw that
God might be seeking them and opened
themselves
to how God might help them. There were many prayers and songs of thanks.
The
greetings of the project team come back to you all! And their prayers!
