Taize Worship
Taize worship provides time for quiet and reflection. Beautiful music; simple, easily learnt chants; thoughtfully chosen readings from Scripture and other sources; symbols such as flowers, light and icons. There is time to pray, ponder and listen; the opportunity to light a candle.
Brother Roger intended in 1940 to form a monastic community at Taize, in France . The Second World War had given this young Swiss a yearning for the reconciliation between churches. In this reconciliation between Christians would be a sign of the reconciliation God willed for all people. Two years later others joined him and today there are 90 brothers, of many denominations from all over the world. Taize is a focus for pilgrimage, especially by the young, and sends out workers to poor areas worldwide.
In our small way at St John’s we reflect this yearning for reconciliation when we are joined each month by Christians from other local congregations.
